Celebrate the 4th of July with a sweet hometown tradition at Franklin on the Fourth. The Franklin Lions Club is proud to host the Franklin on the Fourth Ice Cream Challenge in historic downtown Franklin, Tennessee. A lively, family-friendly contest filled with fun, friendly competition, and plenty of ice cream.

Event Details

Date: July 4
Location:Downtown Franklin, TN
Time: Noon, immediately following the Patriotic Pet Parade
Entry Fee: $10 per participant

All proceeds benefit GraceWorks Ministries, helping support neighbors in Williamson County.

The Ice Cream Challenge is a fast-paced, three-minute contest in which participants race to eat pre-portioned cups of ice cream using only the spoons provided. Napkins and water will be available to help keep contestants comfortable throughout the event.

Contest Rules and Format

Time Limit: 3 minutes.
Portion Control: 3-ounce cups of vanilla ice cream per person.
Rules: No hands allowed. Only spoons, which will be provided, will be allowed. Participants must finish one container before starting another.
The "Chipmunk Rule": We will allow 30 seconds after the buzzer for contestants to swallow remaining ice cream in their mouths to avoid "reversals" (vomiting).
Disqualification: Any "reversal" results in immediate disqualification.
Prizes: Fun, themed prizes (e.g., gift cards, "Ice Cream Champion" trophies, and free vouchers for Ice Cream”).
Divisions: Competitors will be divided into age groups.
Ages 4-7 (Toddler/Junior)
Ages 8-12 (Youth)
Ages 13-17 (Teens)
Ages 18-50 (Adults)
Ages 50+ (Masters)

LIABILITY WAIVER & ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Release of Liability. I (“Participant”), for myself or as the parent or legally appointed guardian of the Participant (if Participant is under eighteen (18) years of age), in consideration of participating in The Franklin on the Fourth Ice Cream Challenge (“Event”), represent that I understand the nature of the Event and that I and/or my minor child am/is qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in the Event. Participant agrees, on behalf of themselves and their heirs, personal representatives, and assigns, hereby releases, waives, discharges, and covenants not to sue the Franklin Lions Club and its individual members and officers, GraceWorks, Hatcher Family Dairy, the City of Franklin, the event organizers, sponsors, volunteers, judges, venue owners, and their respective officers, employees, and agents (collectively, "Released Parties") from any and all claims, demands, losses, costs, damages, or liabilities of any kind arising out of or relating to participation in the Event, including but not limited to: personal injury, illness, property damage, or death, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise.

Competitive Eating Risk

The Participant understands and acknowledges that the Event involves the rapid consumption of ice cream provided by the Event organizers. The Participant and Participant’s minor (if the Participant is under the age of 18 years of age) assumes all health risks for physical reactions inherent to competitive eating, including but not limited to choking, nausea, cold-related discomfort (commonly known as "brain freeze"), and other physical reactions resulting from rapidly consuming ice cream. The Released Parties are not responsible for any such reactions or their consequences.

Judging & Results.

The Participant releases the Released Parties from any claims related to the judging process, judging criteria, or the announcement of results, and acknowledges that all judging decisions are final and binding.

Who We Are

Assumption of Risk.

The Participant voluntarily and knowingly assumes all risks associated with participation in the Event, including risks that are known, unknown, foreseeable, or unforeseeable. The participant acknowledges that their participation in the Event is entirely voluntary.

Indemnification.

I further agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability, and assumption of risk I, or anyone on my and/or my minor child’s behalf, makes a claim against any of the Released Parties, I will, to the fullest extent permissible by applicable law, indemnify, save, and hold harmless each of the Released Parties from any loss, liability, damage, or cost (including reasonable attorney costs and fees) which any may incur as the result of such claim.

Acknowledgment of Liability Waiver:

I have read, understand, and agree to the Liability Waiver and Assumption of Risk stated above and have signed it freely and without any inducement or assurance of any nature and intend it be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law and agree that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. I acknowledge that this is a binding legal agreement and I am signing it freely and voluntarily.
